Water Pressure Restored, But Boil Advisory Persists in Independence, Missouri
After a disruptive water service outage on Monday, the City of Independence, Missouri, has announced that water pressure has been restored. However, a boil advisory remains in effect, indicating that residents should continue to boil their water before use. The city's water service was disrupted due to a power outage affecting the Courtney Bend Water Treatment Plant.
The city issued a statement early on Tuesday, confirming that power was restored to the transformer at the plant around 7 p.m. the previous evening. Water pumping resumed a few hours later and continued throughout the night, ensuring a steady supply.
Independence has successfully transitioned away from relying on KC Water and is now focused on refilling its reservoirs. Despite the restoration of water pressure, the boil advisory is a precautionary measure, as the city is still awaiting the results of 16 water samples collected from various locations across the city.
The impact of the water outage was significant, leading to the closure of schools, courthouses, and other businesses. The Independence School District and Oak Grove School District resumed classes on Tuesday, while the Truman Library, which typically operates from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. Monday through Friday, will open two hours late at 11 a.m. to allow for the normalization of water pressure.
This incident highlights the critical role of reliable water infrastructure in maintaining the smooth functioning of communities. As the city works to ensure the safety and availability of water, residents are advised to follow the boil advisory until further notice.
