Memorial University is moving from seven vice-presidents down to just three, creating a more streamlined executive team. This core team now consists of the provost and vice-president (academic), the vice-president (finance and administration), and the vice-president (research and innovation).
In addition to the core team, there will be three deputy provost positions. These positions will oversee different areas: Grenfell and Labrador Campuses, the Marine Institute, and the executive director for professional and continuing education; the deputy provost and dean of graduate studies. This structure suggests a focus on specific areas of the university.
Here's where things get interesting: The role of vice-president (Indigenous) is being transformed into a special advisor to the president on Indigenous affairs. This shift could signal a change in the approach to Indigenous matters within the university. What do you think this change implies?
Also, the role of vice-president advancement and external relations has been eliminated. The departments of Development and Alumni Engagement, as well as Marketing and Communications, will now report directly to the president. Meanwhile, Signal Hill Campus Operations/Conference and Events Services, the Johnson GEO Centre, Botanical Garden, and Newfoundland Quarterly will report to the vice-president (finance and administration).
And, the role of vice-provost (Labrador Campus), which is currently vacant, has also been eliminated. All individuals directly affected by these changes have been notified.
