Ohio State Football: Veteran Long Snapper Dalton Riggs Joins the Buckeyes (2026)

Former UCF and BYU Long Snapper Dalton Riggs Joins Ohio State

Ohio State has bolstered its long snapper position with the addition of veteran player Dalton Riggs, who will replace John Ferlmann. Riggs, a reliable and skilled long snapper, has committed to transfer to Ohio State, bringing valuable experience and a year of remaining eligibility.

A Twitter post from Dalton Riggs on January 4, 2026, confirms his decision: "Beyond grateful for Coach Day, Coach Keys, and Coach Daniel for this opportunity. Go Buckeyes!"

Riggs' impressive performance at UCF and BYU has earned him a starting role at Ohio State. In the 2025 season, he was one of only three long snappers in the Big 12 to have at least 100 snaps with 0% inaccuracy on field goals and extra points. He also demonstrated speed, with 28 snaps faster than 0.9 seconds, the second-most in the conference.

This transfer marks Riggs' second addition to the 2026 Ohio State team, joining former Ohio tight end Mason Williams. With Ferlmann and his backup, Collin Johnson, out of eligibility, Riggs is poised to become Ohio State's starting long snapper next season. Grant Mills, the other returning long snapper, transferred from North Carolina last year but did not play in his first year as a Buckeye.

This strategic move by Ohio State highlights the importance of long snapper position in football, where consistency and reliability are crucial for success.
